🏝️ Christmas in the Caribbean + a Tip for Better Google Search Results

Hi Reader,

This week I'm sharing a few of my favourite Trinidadian holiday recipes, plus a tip I just learned about that lets you tell Google which websites to show in your search results (see below).

Coconut Sweet Bread

This Trinidad sweet bread is studded with candied cherries, mixed peel, raisins and currants.

Cassava Pone

Cassava pone is a sweet, dense baked dessert made with grated cassava and grated coconut.

Sorrel Drink

Sorrel is a tangy, cold beverage infused with warm spices.

A Quick Tip for Better Search Results

Searching for recipes online has gotten a little messy lately. Google’s new AI Overview often summarizes recipes incorrectly and shows them at the top of search results, without sending you to the source.

As you can imagine, this can lead to disappointing results in the kitchen, and no one wants to waste groceries on a recipe that doesn’t work.

Luckily, Google recently added a feature that lets you choose which websites you want to see more often when you search.

If you enjoy my recipes and want them to show up in your Google searches, you can mark In Search of Yummy-ness as a preferred source.

Here's how:

  1. Click this link: https://www.google.com/preferences/source?q=insearchofyummyness
  2. Check the box next to my website.

This tells Google to prioritize search results from my website when you’re looking for recipes. You can also add any of your other favourite websites to this page.

This works for all kinds of sites, not just food websites.

I hope this helps you regain a little control over your Google search results. 🧡
(Shoutout to Kayla from Broken Oven Baking for sharing this tip with her readers.)

Have a relaxing weekend, and Merry Christmas to anyone celebrating this week! 🎄

P.S. If you’re new around here, welcome! 👋 You can catch up on my previous editions right here.

Thanks for reading! ✨

If you make any of my recipes, I'd appreciate it if you could leave a quick comment and star rating on the blog post. Your review will help others find and enjoy these cozy dishes, too!

A hand holding a crisp plain potato chip topped with a piece of smoked salmon, a dollop of creme fraiche, and a fresh chive.

Hi Reader, As we get ready to welcome the new year, I wanted to share two easy little treats you can make for New Year’s Eve. The sparkling cranberry punch is festive, refreshing, and alcohol-free. You can make most of it ahead of time, just wait to add the ginger ale until you’re ready to serve. And the potato chip canapés are one of my favourite low-effort appetizers: crisp, salty chips topped with smoked salmon, a little creaminess, and fresh herbs. I imagine they’d be good with champagne,...

A clear glass of frothy eggless eggnog on a fancy coaster.

Hi Reader, My idea of a little treat is a cozy, warm drink. Usually, it's tea that gets me through the workday, but now that I'm taking some time off (FINALLY!), all I want are warm holiday beverages. This week I’m sharing two of my go-to holiday drinks:eggless eggnog (which is non-alcoholic) and my spiced hot chocolate. The eggnog is creamy and lightly spiced without being too sweet, and it comes together in just a few minutes. I love to drink this warm, but it's great cold, too. The hot...

A mushroom stuffed with melting brie cheese.

Hi Reader, Today I'm sharing a few of my favourite holiday appetizers: all easy, cheesy, and perfect for cozy gatherings. The baked brie with red pepper jelly is a new recipe on my website. It looks impressive but takes almost no effort, and the flavour is warm, sweet, and savoury all at once. I’m also sharing my brie stuffed mushrooms, which are packed with flavour, and a fun Christmas cheese board that you can really get creative with. If you’re entertaining this month (or just want cozy...
